Lauren is an up and coming soul singer from Leicester. She has been steadily developing her craft, writing, singing and performing original material for a few years now and her hard work is beginning to pay off. Her amazing voice is only equaled by her vibrant personality and the two combined make for a great live performance. Lauren takes influence from such artists as Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Nina Simone, whose voices clearly shine through when she sings.

Questions

How did you get into music?
I started singing when I was sixteen, when I joined a singing group at the arts school down the road, it was just a bit of a mess around really, but then the group leader started to encourage me more, and start taking it a bit more seriously, so i did a few technical singing exams, where you do scales and intervals and that.

How long have you been at this?
Well, I’m nineteen now, so i’d say three years on and off

What have you had released?
Erm, I think I’ve been released on a couple of mixtapes on stuff I’ve done with Bex, and stuff I’ve done for the album ‘Kind of Peace’, but no solo releases to date

Who have you worked with?
Pat Dooner, a few producers I’ve met on Myspace from around the country, Mister Soul, Dirty Sweet, Budapest, Suzpect, and a few others I may have forgotten…. sorry about that, exam time, my head is full of books.

What are your plans for the future?
mmm, I haven’t really thought about it that much, I guess just carry on what I’m doing, doing gigs when I get gigs, write when I have something decent to write.

Where can people find out about you and what you’re up to?
Mainly on Myspace (www.myspace.com/laurenjadevocals), which I vow to check more often, cos i usually put gigs and stuff up there, and new tunes when i’ve got them. Message me up, it makes me happy!
